There is an old saying that many people still have a hard time following. The saying goes
something like this, “Never assume as you can make an ass out of you and me.” Basically, it is never a good idea to make assumptions; especially if by doing so could be harmful to others.
An example would be those who assumed and speculated that Sylvester Stallone’s son, Sage, had died from a drug overdose. Stallone and his family had to deal with not only the loss but those who publicly reported Sage was using drugs. Well, the speculation and questioning over apparently drug overdose as the reason Stallone’s son died has come to an end as a spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner office reported Thursday that the cause of death was a heart attack.
While many speculated Sage’s death was drug related, the official determination was he died of a heart attack that was brought on by atherosclerosis. This is a condition where an artery wall thickens as a result of a buildup of fatty materials such as cholesterol. It is commonly referred to as a hardening or furring of the arteries.
The coroner’s office said there were no drugs found in Stallone’s system except an over-the-counter Tylenol-style pain medication. According to his mother, Sasha Csack, her son had undergone dental surgery two weeks before his death. He had five teeth extracted and suggested at that time this might have been the reason for Sage using pain killers. The office also notified the family of their findings and that the full report will be released next week.
When assumptions and speculations were made in July about how Sage’s death was related to drugs, Sylvester Stallone had made a public appeal to the media to stop what he called “questionable reporting.” He said “Because when a parent loses a child there is no greater pain. Therefore I am imploring people to respect my wonderfully talented son’s memory and feel compassion for his loving mother, Sasha, because this agonizing loss will be felt for the rest of our lives. Sage was our first child and the center of our universe and I am humbly begging for all to have my son’s memory and soul left in peace.”
Unfortunately, the sudden death of a celebrity has a tendency to draw early speculation of drug involvement in Hollywood; however, in recent cases, the causes of death have been due to natural causes.
A possible reason for the assumption of drug involvement was when Sage’s body was discovered by a housekeeper on July 13th, police arrived and began investigating the source of empty, commercial-sized prescription-pill bottles discovered at the scene. Around the time of his death, Stallone was working on various film projects as well as being engaged to be married.
