Melissa Rycroft Injured During Rehearsal and Hospitalized; Upcoming Performances in Jeopardy

Melissa Rycroft Injury

Those who watch “Dancing with the Stars” know that it takes a lot of practice to perform well on the show. The farther you advance the more practice you must put in. Contestant Melissa Rycroft and her partner, Tony Dovolani, have been putting in time and energy to make it to the finals and they know it won’t be easy to make it to the end of the competition.

Unfortunately, their quest may be in jeopardy as Melissa suffered a neck and head injury that sent her to the hospital on Sunday. Depending on how bad her injury is, Melissa’s dream may turn into a nightmare if unable to perform Monday evening.

When the season began on this year’s “Dancing with the Stars,” Melissa Rycroft and her partner, Tony Dovolani, dreamt of making it to the finals as did the other contestants. As the season progressed, the hard work and practice Rycroft and her partner put in showed by the comments the judges made and continued to advance towards the finals.

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba gushed last week after Rycroft’s jitterbug and said, “You have such a way of making everything look effortless.” With a comment like that, they knew this week’s performance had to equal or improve upon their jitterbug dance from last episode.

While practicing their dance for this week’s show, the Tango, the contestants took one step forward and a huge step backwards as Melissa ended up injuring herself. People magazine reported that Rycroft was rushed to the hospital Sunday afternoon as she sustained both a neck and head injury during practice.

In a statement told to People by Rycroft’s rep, “Melissa was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where she is currently being examined. She was accompanied to the hospital by her husband, Tye Strickland, and her dance partner, Tony Dovolani. Everyone is taking all necessary precautions at this time.”

Unfortunately, injuries happening on the set are not uncommon; however, Dovolani showed concern that Melissa’s trip to the hospital could be more serious even though Gossip Cop confirmed that she was released from the hospital.

Late Sunday evening, Rycroft’s concerned partner tweeted that, “Really concerned about @MelissaRycroft. We don’t know if we are dancing tomorrow!!!!! Please keep us in your prayers.”

Rycroft’s determined spirit and bubbly personality throughout the first few weeks of the show’s competition has earned praises and complements for her enthusiastic delivery and clean footwork. Even though she was released from the hospital, no word has been released if the pair will be able to perform Monday evening.

Another problem the pair will face is how Rycroft will be able to perform with the injuries she sustained. I would think if she can overcome her injuries and deliver a great performance, expect a huge response from the audience as well as the judges.
